ICE! Indie Craft Experience Holiday Show

ICE was a success for cameoko! Thanks to everyone who came out and supported me. It was a fun show. Ambient Studio was filled with talented artists, crafters, and shoppers galore! Food trucks, DJ's, King of Pops, a photobooth by Leah and Mark- all the little details came together to create one amazing experience. It was an honor to be a small part of something so fun and successful.

Here's a quick snapshot of part of my booth-

I had a ton of fun selling my jewelry to admiring shoppers. It always feels good to sell directly to individuals, and that's why I believe I love craft shows- because they are so personal. I also adore shopping at them.

Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival

This was my first time at the Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival- and wow! It was awesome! Gorgeous weather, lots of friends, and lots of lovely people out and about shopping and enjoying the festival. Oakhurst is near and dear to my heart since it was where I was living when I got married back in 2006. What a great neighborhood! I hope to do this festival again next year.

Beautiful new earrings made with salvaged scraps of designer Libterty of London fabric, resin and accented with a stone or bead. These new teardrop shapes are larger than all of my previous earrings and are really cool! Love them!

East Atlanta Strut 2011

The East Atlanta Strut was tons of fun. It really is one of the best festivals in Atlanta. The weather was gorgeous! And there was just tons of cool stuff going on- fire dancers, circus, the parade, ice sculptors, musicians ... Of course, I didn't get to see much of it because I was manning my booth pictured here:

(Not the greatest picture, I know. But then again, I didn't have the best location either, and I didn't really want to photograph the trash receptacles behind me.)

Some of my best sellers at the fair are these lovely resin bubble dangles on bronze findings. I love the way they look on this vintage plate.

And a shot of my bronze leverback earrings on my new cards that I punched out of older business cards- I thought they turned out really cute.

And some supporters of team Cameoko! My husband and our friend, Ras. FUN TIMES!

I wish I took more pictures but this is all I've got! It was a really fun show, and especially nice to see a lot of familiar faces and friends show up. Thank you to everyone who came out. I enjoyed the day and I hope you all did as well!

Indie Craft Parade 2011

Cameoko had a fantastic show at the Indie Craft Parade in Greenville this past weekend. The turnout was absolutely amazing and it was clearly evident that the producers of the show worked very hard to put on such a successful event. Many of the vendors I spoke with had their best show to date, including myself! The show had a VIP Gala evening on Friday which consisted of music, food, wine and beer for 300+ ticker holders. Saturday and Sunday were open to the public- and every day was bustling, busy and super fun.

I am lucky to have been a part of this awesome show. I barely made it in, as the sweet gals who run the show let me know I had a spot 4 days before the show started. I wish I could have been more prepared- but I still was able to bring enough inventory and have one of my best shows to date. Thank you, Greenville! You're an amazing little city that I absolutely adore.

Last but not least, my favorite part of selling at a craft show is also being able to purchase some amazing handmade goodies! Here are some really lovely scores from the Parade:

Red Clay Soap made from fresh goat's milk. These folks were so nice and they were our neighbors throughout the show. And I must say, their soap is pretty fabulous. It leaves your skin so silky- must be the goats milk? Anyhow, they were so fun to have as our neighbors and we got along so well that they decided to name one of their goats after me. Yes, it made me chuckle- but it's super sweet, right?

Oh, I am so in love with all of her pieces of art. I could easily have picked up 4 or 5 of them to bring home with me. This one in particular caught my eye, and I guess it's because she used a vintage feedsack fabric as the background- and it definitely spoke to me. It says, "Home sweet." and I hung it up on my wall immediately.

New leverback earrings and pendant

This past weekend I participated in an Artists' Market at a new space in Athens called Whole: Mind. Body. Art. It was fun hanging out in the Classic city with good friends and although not a lot of people showed up to the market- it was a good reason to visit and get out of town for a day.

Lots of requests for leverbacks so here they are! This set is now available at Helix in downtown Athens. If you're the type of woman who wants their jewelry to sparkle- this is the set for you. Earrings are made using bronze settings, pretty light blue paper and copper glitter- very nice! Matching pendant on wood, copper colored bail and 18" ball chain.

Fingers crossed that I get into the East Atlanta Strut! I find out this week. Eeks!

We really enjoyed our weekend in Asheville. We drove up on Saturday to spend the day and night celebrating with my sister on her birthday. We had tapas at Hotel Indigo, ate some great Thai food, got dessert and coffee from World Coffee and wandered around the vibrant city.

We stumbled upon a huge folk festival with square dancing, music, and festivities and it was packed with thousands of people.

The next day was The Big Crafty. There were a lot of people shopping- this was the largest Big Crafty to date. I was so glad to be a part of it.

Another shot of my booth from the street- I was busy! I enjoyed talking to a lot of wonderful Asheville people. So many friendly faces- no wonder this city attracts so many talented artists- it's filled with a great support for the arts on so many levels.

I was able to sneak away from my booth for a few seconds and I am sure glad I did because I was able to meet a really awesome gal named Sally who owns Nana. I got this wallet from her made out of super cool vintage fabric. Sally is fabulous- check out all the other amazing purses and wallets she has for sale on etsy here.

Right next door to our booth was Seven Feathers Tribe. I could not resist this adorable princess crown for my sweetheart! Check out how awesome it is! So impressed with the quality and workmanship in her fun and whimsical creations for kids. She has lots listed on her etsy site! Go take a look!

Fun times at the Chatty Crafty this year! The two day show started out with gorgeous sunny skies and a steady attendance; which was the complete opposite of how it ended.

Here is a pic of my booth on the first day with my new larger than thou banner. I love it! It's nice to finally have a sign to hang.

Here is a close up of some of my pretty vintage feedsack & resin earrings for sale. A local Chattanooga store, Blue Skies, purchased quite a few of these from me- which was the highlight of my weekend! If you're in the Chattanooga area- be sure to check them out.

Love the shoppers! Chatty Crafty seemed to be pretty well attended despite the scary weather conditions that was forecast.

Here I am with my daughter and Dotty. Dotty was selling for Another Sassy Product right next door to me, so we were able to chat and hang all weekend. She's a great gal and we're so happy to have met her!

A pic of the impending doom that awaited us at 4:30 Sunday afternoon. We were stranded in our booths because of torrential downpour, thunder, lighting, and flooding. The whole works came down upon us as we were frantically trying to pack up and save all of our items from flying out of the tent. Thankfully, no on was hurt and nothing was damaged and we made it home safe and sound.

Of course, an indie craft show cannot be attended without bringing home some goodies!

I love this awesome clutch purse made out of recycled automotive leather upholstery. It's seriously super fly- just like Connie, the owner of Contast Effects from Asheville, NC. Check her out on Facebook- she has such great leather creations!

And the awesome Daisycakes soap- really good stuff! Made by local Athens, Ga peeps. Daisycakes was super sweet and right behind me at the show. She generously gave my daughter this glow in the dark soap shaped like a dinosaur that Mikayla was thrilled about. Definitely a highlight of her weekend! I got two sweet scents: Lemongrass & Loofah and Freesia & Plumeria- mmm!

All in all, I really enjoyed my weekend in Chattanooga. It was a nice getaway from Atlanta, and a really friendly city to boot. Another happy and successful show for Cameoko.

Feedsack vintage fabric scraps

Newly acquired vintage feedsack fabric scraps here- I'm prepping them for my next batch of resin jewelry. Just as gorgeous today as they were 70 years ago.

"Sometime in the 1920's, an enterprising manufacturer of cloth bags hit upon an interesting idea - maybe he could sell more sacks if they were decorated to be more desirable for the farmer's wife. And the era of the printed feedsack began. No longer just beige muslin, with advertising for the feed company, now sacks began to appear in a wide variety of popular colors and prints. And paper labels were applied so that the fabric could be reused without the advertising.

Through the shortages of money during the great depression, and of cloth during the war years, feedsack filled the needs of thousands of women for fabric to create the things they could not otherwise buy. Recycling at its best, with farmers' wives fighting over the prettiest patterns. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever, and at the end of the 1950's, increasing costs led manufacturers to begin to use heavy paper and other materials for feeds, and the cloth bag fell out of use. The ones found today are almost all remnants of these 3 1/2 decades of production, carefully washed, folded and stored away for use by thrifty farmwives."

Wow, I miss Athens. What a fun and fabulous day we had at the Craftstravaganzaa! It was a long day- but steady and oh so beautiful! We couldn't have asked for better weather. Lots of lovely vendors abound at the Craftstravaganzaa. I am so happy to say that I came home with some really beautiful presents for myself :), my daughter and my mom. Buying handmade is the best! Trading is even better.

So far, so good. Thanks to my patient and sweet husband showing me the ropes.

I am experimenting with screenprinting the silhouettes onto my fabric and wallpapers before layering with resin. The process I was using before was a lot more tedious- layers upon layers of papers and resin- and my batches would sometimes be hit or miss- making the whole process really time consuming and uncertain. BUT THIS, my friends, is totally fascinating to me! Loving it. Onward and upward...

I decided to give it a shot- button pendants! I'm in love with them. I've had a stash of vintage buttons for years now, not sure exactly what to do with them, especially since I'm no seamstress. I was elated to find these setting to lay the buttons in, I filled the setting with resin and the button now is securely in place!

*UPDATE**

So, I've been checking the stats on the etsy showcase I purchased yesterday and the results are beyond sad. The showcase did not give me any traffic, any hearts, nada! Absolutely nothing. I think since the showcase is so hidden on the etsy site- no one is really looking where they are showcasing. My items are still buried. Oh well! C'est La Vie! I won't be using the etsy showcase feature again! Lesson learned.

Here's a photo of my table at the Avondale Holiday Market that took place yesterday. I met some wonderful people, sold some pretty pieces, traded with tickleworm! and even have a retail location that is possibly interested in carrying my jewelry- so all in all- it was a success.

Oh so sweet- how can you resist? These silhouettes of birds are scans from old vintage children's books. The silhouettes float over vintage 1950's wallpaper that have pretty metallic embellishments. Absolutely one of a kind and unique!

I've never made rings before! It's pretty fun and I think they're looking awesome. Here's a glimpse of what I'm working on now- the resin is actually still drying- a process that takes well over 24 hours. I've acquired some new (well, new for me) 70's vintage fabric and some new 50's wallpaper that I've used for these. Matching earrings are being made as we speak- more pics coming soon.

Gearing up for this show next weekend- The Avondale Estates Holiday Market! The show will be on Dec 12th in the lovely Avondale Estates Community Club. 59 Lakeshore Drive. 12- 6pm. C'mon out!

The chain used is a shimmer cut or diamond cut chain which makes the earrings sparkle- they're so pretty. This photo does not do it justice! Earring hooks are a rhodium plated sterling silver- ones that never tarnish... love them.

Vintage Japanese paper post earrings on left; Vintage fabric post earrings on right. I love it how my jewelry continues to surprise me. Even though I've made post earrings before- I never thought these would turn out to be two of my favorite designs. I like very simple, subtle jewelry- and the ones on the left are the perfect pairing of vintage & simplicity.. and the ones on the right are so sweet and vibrant- yet pleasant and so easy to wear!

Here are some new designs using vintage 50's barkcloth. The texture is phenomenal! I love them so much. For those of you who don't know what barkcloth is, it is usually made of densely woven cotton fibers. Historically, the fabric has been used in home furnishings, such as curtains, drapery, upholstery, and slipcovers. It is often associated with 1940s-through-1960s home fashions, particularly in tropical, abstract, "atomic" and "boomerang" prints.

I'm very happy with these little cuties. They will be for sale at the one and only CHATTY CRAFTY this weekend!

Orange Beach, Al birds

I love how free these birds feel flying in the air- and they were just magical at the Gulf Shores last week. There were hundreds of birds flying everywhere on this particular afternoon. I was really enjoying laying in my beach chair watching them fly all over the place while my daughter happily coated herself in sand. It was a treat to be able to capture these photographic silhouettes- just as I do in my jewelry.

The East Atlanta Strut

The East Atlanta Strut was fantastic! Thanks to everyone who came out and visited during the hot day- blazing sun, beers abound, mechanical bull to my left, great friend of Dan's bartending across the street, perfect view of the parade, excellent booth mates, family and friends galore.. I couldn't ask for a better day!

It was great being able to hang out with Tia. What a fantastic booth mate! It was so much fun- hopefully we can do another show soon in the future. Tia is a full time artist who goes to craft shows every weekend! She's very inspiring.

Peaceful little bird lockets

Here are two new bird lockets that I have finally finished. Silhouettes are set on 1950's vintage wallpaper, and the lockets are a beautiful etched bronze. I am modeling one on the right- it's so sweet, I might just have to keep it for myself.

I've been on a little earring kick lately, can you tell? Here are some of my favorites.

Pics above and below are made using vintage fabric and resin. They are my babies- j'adore!

I've been experimenting with hundreds of different papers for my jewelry- I've noticed lately I've been making lots of neutrals and I think they look fabulous! Not to mention, they will go with almost everything. You can wear them everyday!

These were a hit at the last show I attended, so I'll be making more for the future. Here are three that I made recently- my birdie silhouettes over vintage wallpaper... they feel so free and lovely. I don't think I'll ever tire of the bird theme. The birds to me symbolize freedom, beauty, independence- typical admiral traits of the Sagittarius in me.

Pretty New Bronze Hair Pins

These pretty pins were made using Japanese paper, or washi paper, and resin. The paper is a pretty fall geometric line pattern. I've also made lockets with the same paper that turned out super cute, but they're not ready to photograph just yet! These look great in the hair. As soon as I find my hair model, I'll take a pic. Any hair model volunteers out there?

Vintage Cabochon Jewelry

I have always loved vintage cabochons, but have never experimented with them. Here are my very first two pieces of vintage cab jewelry.

The first pic features a pale pink celluolid cabochon with white inlay hanging on a silver plated bail.

The bobby pins feature beautiful white faceted lucite cabochons. They're very elegant and simple. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Wow, all I can say is this book is so inspirational! It's filled with big names in the crafting world, like Faythe Levine and Amy Butler- their stories on how they got to where they are now. Plus it also has over 60 crafters who are just like me- just getting started in the crafting community.

I love reading all the stories. It motivates me to get going on all my little jewelry projects I have waiting for me on my dining room table. Ahh, but alas, I have yet to do it full time. I must continue my freelance photo jobs- which are also fulfilling, but not in the crafty get-your-hands-dirty kind of way.

The Big Crafty was amazing! I had a fantastic time and was floored with the amount of smiling faces and beautiful people I encountered. Thanks, Asheville. This was one of my best shows yet!

I recently just bought this pretty handmade plate to show off my small bronze resin earrings. I think it worked out well- I was really happy with my display.

Here I am selling my last locket (thanks, Christina for the pic). This man was so sweet, he bought two of my prettiest necklaces for his wife.

I shared my booth with Paige of P Creates- here's a pic of her recycled t shirt scarves- which are incredibly awesome, btw!

This was Paige's side of our booth- she is a great display artist as well as an overall amazingly green and conscious artist using only recycled materials. Check her out on etsy here!

Our drive home, late after the show. The mountains are beautiful. Can't wait to come back, Asheville! You're an amazing little place.

Here is a pic of my booth at the Crafty Feast. We got there at 10am and the festival lasted until 10pm- it was quite a day! 12 hours of setting up, selling, meeting lots of crafty folks, making new friends, and selling my wares. We had such a great time. To anyone reading this that came by my booth- THANK YOU! You made my 4th of July very memorable.
(oh funny, do you see my daughter under the table? my sweet Mikibaby- she is my inspiration, which is why I named my etsy store after her- www.mikibaby.etsy.com :)

Hanging with Mikayla- she had a blast! She especially enjoyed this balloon hat that her and her daddy waited in a LONG hot line for. Whew. The sun was brutal, and delirium inducing.

And, it was especially nice meeting Abraham, Delilah and baby Hiawah- my boothmates from Columbia, SC, who make amazing artwork. It made long hours spent in a hot parking lot so much more enjoyable!

I've been staying up late and working really hard trying to build up a large inventory for two summer shows that are right around the corner! Wish me luck!! Crafty Feast in Columbia, Sc which is this weekend.. and the Big Crafty in Asheville, Nc which is the following weekend.. The whole family will be packing up the car and hitting the road! Here's hoping that little miss munchkin enjoys the ride... (aka my 2 year old daughter.)

Here is a close up image of some of the new resin earrings I've been making. These are made using vintage repro fabric- I LOVE them. I think the fabric texture is especially pretty coming through the resin. You'll have to see for yourself!

Pretty brass lockets- perfect for holding that special photo inside. Protected on the outside with lovely birds set on vintage paper. So sweet and special. I love them!

I love sugarcookie's art and am so thrilled to be featured on ranchococoa's blog where my bobby pins can be seen!

I bought this strawberry plushie from sugarcookie at the holiday craftstravaganzaa event for my miki baby.. and she adores it. It's the only strawberry she adores, really, since we recently realized she's allergic to the berry. But, nonetheless, this plushie rules.

Also, for things that rule... I bought this t shirt from Circles and Squares, indie artists located in Asheville, NC. Their organic tees are comfortable and awesome. I will definitely be buying more tees from them, hopefully at the Big Crafty! An indie craft show located in Asheville that I applied to- (fingers crossed that I make the cut!)

Athens Indie Craftstravaganzaa Spring 2010

Thanks to all that came out yesterday for the Spring Craftstravaganzaa. It was an overcast, drizzly day, but the sun did peak out for a few hours to heat things up and shine. It was my first spring craft show and it was a great success, despite the soggy weather conditions. I met a lot of nice people and bought some excellent indie art as well!

Here is a picture of my booth :) Now that I've done a few craft shows, I understand the importance of display! I am going to get my sewing machine out to create some fun banners and items of interest- a little something to draw in the crowds. Thanks to Paige of P Creates and Rachel of Tickleworm for some inspiring ideas and lovely conversation.
